Furman University sophomore guard Alyssa Ervin has been named the Southern Conference (SoCon) Player of the Week, according to an announcement from the league.
Ervin played a key role in Furman’s recent conference victories over UNC Greensboro (UNCG) and Western Carolina. Over the two games, she scored a total of 41 points, averaging 20.5 points per game. She also made six out of thirteen attempts from three-point range and contributed 11 rebounds, five steals, three blocks, and one additional steal.
In the matchup against UNCG, Ervin set a personal best with 24 points. Her performance helped Furman overcome a ten-point halftime deficit to secure a 69-56 win. This victory ended UNCG’s seven-game winning streak and their 16-game run against SoCon opponents that had lasted nearly a year. Against Western Carolina, Ervin led her team with 17 points during a strong second half that resulted in a 69-38 win for Furman and extended their home winning streak against the Catamounts to fourteen games.
Originally from Galax, Virginia, and previously at Elon University before transferring to Furman for this season, Ervin is currently averaging 13.1 points and 3.1 rebounds per game. She leads the Paladins in free throw percentage at .758.
Ervin is the second player from Furman to receive SoCon Player of the Week honors this season; forward Clare Coyle was recognized two weeks ago.
The Paladins have won five of their last six games and hold an overall record of 11-8 with a conference record of 3-1. They are scheduled to play two road games this week starting with Mercer on Thursday at 7:00 p.m.
