Furman’s Elle Warren was named the Southern Conference women’s tennis player of the week for matches played from March 24 to March 30, according to an announcement by the conference on Tuesday. The selection was made by the league office.
Warren, a freshman from Canton, Ohio, received this honor for the second time this season. She secured four wins across two matches last week. On March 24, she teamed up with Lillie Murphy for a 6-2 doubles victory at flight one and went on to win her singles match at flight two with a score of 6-1, 6-0 as Furman defeated Mercer, 7-0. Later in the week against Samford on March 29, Warren and Murphy—ranked as the No. 31 doubles team nationally—won their top-seeded doubles match with a score of 6-1. Warren also won her singles match at flight one with scores of 6-2 and 7-5 in Furman’s 5-2 win over Samford.
The recognition highlights consistent performances by both Warren and her teammate Murphy throughout the season. The award is part of weekly honors given by the Southern Conference to outstanding players based on their recent performances.
Other nominees for this week’s award included Audelie Lesauvage (East Tennessee State University), Marina de Diego Quinones (Mercer), and Grace Agster (Wofford). A list provided by the conference shows that both Warren and Murphy have been repeat recipients during this year’s tennis season.
Furman is scheduled to host Wofford today at 3 p.m., continuing its run in conference play.
