Furman women’s lacrosse team advanced to the semifinals of the Big South Women’s Lacrosse Championship after a 15-5 win over Radford on April 28 at Paladin Stadium.
The victory allows Furman, now with a season record of 10-8, to progress in the tournament and face top-seeded Mercer on Friday at Five Star Stadium in Macon, Georgia. Radford’s season concludes with a record of 4-14.
Lily Toole led all players with five points, including four goals and one assist. She also contributed three ground balls and caused one turnover. Other key contributors for Furman included Allie Kandel with four goals, Shae Insinga who recorded three goals and one assist, and Reynolds Hester who added one goal and three assists. Lily Mosser came off the bench to post a career-high four points from two goals and two assists. Skylar Hilmer caused a career-best four turnovers and collected seven draws, while Cate Noone had six draws. Rachel Sbei achieved a personal best with four ground balls. Goalie Sailor Henderson earned the win by making five saves.
For Radford, Molly O’Brien scored two goals while Maddy Driscoll provided three assists. Goalkeeper Ava LaManna made 14 saves.
Furman started strong with an early lead after opening on a 4-1 run in the first quarter. The Paladins finished the first half on another run, outscoring Radford 4-0 before halftime for an 8-3 advantage. In the second half, Furman’s defense limited Radford to just two more goals while scoring six consecutive times during one stretch.
The Paladins ended the game holding significant statistical advantages: they outshot Radford by more than double (45-21), collected more ground balls (20-14), forced more turnovers (13-8), dominated draws (17-5), and pressured their opponent into committing 25 turnovers—the second time this season an opponent has reached that mark against them.
