The Furman men’s basketball team announced on May 1 that transfer point guard Luka Toews will join its roster for the upcoming 2026-27 season.

Toews arrives at Furman with two years of eligibility remaining after spending his first two collegiate seasons at Boston College. During his time there, he averaged 4.2 points and 1.8 assists per game over a total of 53 games, while making nearly 37 percent of his three-point attempts.

Bob Richey, entering his tenth season as head coach at Furman, said, “Luka is a high-level point guard who brings experience, toughness, and shooting to our program. His experience at Boston College has prepared him to make an immediate impact, and we are excited to get him to campus!”

In his freshman year during the 2024-25 season, Toews played in 24 games off the bench before moving into a starting role in his sophomore year. He appeared in 29 games with Boston College last season and started in twenty of them. He posted averages of 6.3 points, 1.6 rebounds, and 2.2 assists per game while improving his three-point shooting percentage to just over thirty-nine percent. Toews had eight double-digit scoring performances as a sophomore including a career-high twenty-one points against Fairleigh Dickinson and fourteen points along with eight assists versus Florida State.

Toews was born in Tokyo, Japan where his father coached basketball and was selected for the Japanese National Team for the Nippon Life Cup in summer of last year.
