Graduate transfer Marcus Kell will join the Furman men’s basketball team for the 2026-27 season, head coach Bob Richey announced on April 29. Kell comes to Furman after four years at Western Carolina and will have one season of eligibility with the Paladins.
Kell is originally from Fort Mill, South Carolina. He played as a forward for Western Carolina, where he started all 31 games as a redshirt junior in his most recent season. During that time, he averaged 13.6 points and 4.8 rebounds per game.
“Marcus is a guy we’ve watched for a long time in this league, and we’re thrilled to have him on our side,” said Richey. “He brings toughness, versatility, and experience, and we believe he fits perfectly with how we play and who we are as a program. His ability to impact the game on both ends, along with his maturity as a graduate transfer, will make him a valuable addition to our locker room and our culture.”
In his career at Western Carolina, Kell achieved several milestones including scoring a season-high of 27 points against High Point and UNC Greensboro during his redshirt junior year. In the Southern Conference Tournament that same year, he scored 15 points in a win over Mercer before adding another 18 in WCU’s semifinal loss to East Tennessee State University.
Kell began playing college basketball in the 2022-23 season before redshirting the following year. He returned for the 2024-25 campaign averaging 11.7 points and 5.5 rebounds per game while making nearly thirty-eight percent of his three-point attempts. That season included standout performances such as scoring twenty-nine points against Furman and setting a career-high with thirty-one points versus National Invitation Tournament champion Chattanooga.
Over eighty-one career games at Western Carolina—including forty-seven starts—Kell averaged just over ten points per game along with nearly five rebounds per contest.
Further additions to Furman’s roster for next season are expected soon according to official team communications.
