The Furman men’s golf team will participate in the Michael A. Marino Championship from Sunday through Tuesday at the Dunes Golf & Beach Club in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, according to a March 14 announcement.
The event is significant for Furman as it brings together a strong field of 16 teams and offers an opportunity for the Paladins to test their skills against nationally ranked opponents. The tournament is played on a par-72 course measuring 7,370 yards.
Head coach Matt Davidson, who is in his eighth year leading the program and is the reigning Southern Conference Coach of the Year, said, “The Dunes Beach and Golf Club is one of the best tests of golf we play all season. It definitely challenges you tee to green, and is always in fantastic condition. The field is strong as always, and we are looking forward to the challenge both the course and the competition will provide!”
Furman’s lineup includes seniors Harris Barth, Zach Frazer, Clark Akers; sophomore Ludvig Josefsson; and junior Fisher Kennedy. Sophomore David Oliver will compete as an individual. The Paladins will be joined by host Coastal Carolina along with teams such as Little Rock (ranked No. 47), Kent State, Liberty, Michigan, Missouri, Louisiana, Charleston, Florida Gulf Coast (No. 50), North Florida, Kansas State, Louisville (No. 33), N.C. State, Baylor, and UNLV (No. 37).
The tournament consists of 54 holes beginning at 8 a.m. on Sunday. Furman will start on hole No. 10 at 9:30 a.m., grouped with N.C. State and Baylor for the first round. Admission is free for fans and live scoring will be available via Scoreboard by clippd.
Earlier this season at the Gopher Invitational, Akers and Frazer tied for twentieth place individually while Barth secured his first career individual victory at the Bearcat Invitational with scores of 67-69-68=204 before leading Furman with a sixth-place finish at SMU’s Trinity Forest Invitational.
