Furman men’s tennis falls to Tennessee Tech in non-conference matchup

The Furman men’s tennis team lost 4-2 to Tennessee Tech in a non-conference match held Friday morning at Eastern Kentucky’s Greg Adams Tennis Center in Richmond, Kentucky.

With this result, Furman’s season record drops to 2-6, while Tennessee Tech improves to 3-4 overall.

Tennessee Tech secured the doubles point by winning both completed matches. In the top doubles spot, Alex Alvarez and Davids Spaks defeated Theophile Joly and Nico Snyder 6-3. At No. 2 doubles, Oliver Dao and Linus Rohlin beat Nicolas Dispas and Alex Han 6-2. The third doubles match was unfinished, with Evan Duggal and Landon Ecarma leading Murilo Burckhardt and Diego Munoz 5-4 when the point was decided.

In singles play, Tennessee Tech claimed victories at No. 3, No. 4, and No. 5 positions to seal the win. Diego Munoz overcame Nicolas Dispas at No. 4 singles with a score of 6-4, 6-2. Davids Spaks won against Evan Duggal at No. 3 in two tiebreak sets (7-6(3), 7-6(4)). Murilo Burckhardt clinched the match for Tennessee Tech by defeating Walker Allen at No. 5 singles (6-3, 6-2).

Furman earned singles points from Nico Snyder at No.1 and Theophile Joly at No.2 singles. “The reigning SoCon Player of the Week, Snyder tied the match at 1-1 following his third consecutive win, and fourth of the season, 6-4, 6-4, against Dao.” “Joly added a three-set win over Alvarez, 6-4, 3-6, 7-5, for his second victory of the season.”

At No.6 singles Landon Ecarma was ahead against Christian Cappuccini (6-2, 2-3) when Tennessee Tech clinched the overall match.
