The Furman men’s tennis team will resume Southern Conference play on March 16 with an away match against the Mercer Bears at Copelan Tennis Complex in Macon, Georgia. The contest is scheduled for 2:30 p.m.

This matchup is important as both teams look to improve their records within the conference. Fans can follow live stats on the Furman athletics website and receive updates through the team’s Twitter page.

Furman, currently holding a 4-10 overall record and 1-0 in conference play, recently returned home after more than a month and narrowly lost to Dayton with a score of 4-3. In that match, Furman secured the doubles point with victories from Nicolas Dispas and Nico Snyder at No. 1 doubles, as well as Alex Han and Finn Pollard at No. 3 doubles. Singles wins came from Evan Duggal at No. 4 and Landon Ecarma at No. 6.

Mercer enters the contest with a 4-9 overall record and is winless in conference play so far this season. The Bears are led by head coach Eric Hayes, who is in his thirteenth year with the program. Most recently, Mercer suffered a 4-0 loss to Tennessee.

This will be the seventeenth meeting between Furman and Mercer in program history, with Furman leading the all-time series 13-3. However, Mercer won last year’s encounter in Greenville by a score of 4-1.

Looking ahead, Furman will begin a four-match homestand starting Sunday, March 22, when they host Chattanooga for another Southern Conference matchup.
