Furman University freshman Lillie Murphy was named the Southern Conference Women’s Tennis Player of the Week for matches played March 3-9, according to a March 10 announcement from the league office.
Murphy, who is from Knoxville, Tennessee, received her second weekly honor this season after contributing to Furman’s undefeated record last week. The Paladins secured victories over Toledo, Belmont, and Virginia Tech during that period.
Murphy achieved three straight-set wins at No. 2 singles and partnered with Elle Warren at No. 1 doubles to secure wins against Belmont and Virginia Tech. Her performance was instrumental in Furman’s success throughout the week.
The team will return to competition on Saturday morning when it hosts Elon at Mickel Tennis Center at 11 a.m.
The recognition highlights Murphy’s continued impact as a freshman and signals strong momentum for Furman women’s tennis as they move further into their season.
