The Furman University track and field teams will participate in the Duke Invitational at Morris Williams Stadium in Durham, North Carolina, on April 10 and 11. Both men’s and women’s squads are scheduled to compete in multiple events over the two-day meet.
The event is significant for Furman’s athletes as it offers an opportunity to improve their standings within the East Region ahead of postseason competitions. Live results will be available through www.furmanpaladins.com, while select events will be broadcast live on ACCNX.
For the women’s team, freshman Annie Miller currently holds the 16th spot in the East Region for the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 10:25.15. Senior Camryn Wennersten ranks 42nd regionally in the 1,500 meters with a time of 4:20.65, and sophomore Claire Cook is ranked 43rd in the region for her performance of 2:07.42 in the 800 meters.
On the men’s side, graduate student Albert Velikonja is ranked No. 21 in the East Region after running a time of 13:51.71 in the 5,000 meters. Graduate student Bryn Woodall holds position No. 32 regionally with a mark of 3:43.34 in the 1,500 meters; sophomore Rives Boltwood is ranked No. 49 for his time of 29:50.21 in the ten thousand meters.
Competition begins Friday evening with distance events as part of The Norm Ogilvie Distance Carnival before continuing Saturday with sprints and relays including both men’s and women’s entries across several distances.
