The Furman women’s lacrosse team defeated the Radford Highlanders 17-9 in a Big South Conference game at Paladin Stadium, according to a March 28 announcement. Eight different players scored for Furman as the team extended its winning streak to three games, improving its overall record to 6-5 and remaining undefeated in conference play at 2-0. Radford dropped to 1-9 on the season and is now winless in league play.
The victory is significant for Furman as it continues its momentum within the conference. The team’s balanced offensive performance was led by Lily Toole, who recorded a season-high seven points with five goals and two assists. Shae Insinga also contributed five goals, while Allie Kandel added two goals and three assists. On defense, Zoe Milmoe collected four ground balls and caused two turnovers along with Charlotte Kent and Rachel Sbei.
Cate Noone scored once for Furman and achieved a career high with five draw controls. Goalkeeper Sam Melville earned the win by making 11 saves and picking up one ground ball. For Radford, Mady Cheney had two goals and an assist while Molly O’Brien scored three times; Ava LaManna made 12 saves in goal.
Furman started strong by scoring three of the first four goals before Radford closed the gap to make it a one-goal game late in the second quarter. Insinga’s consecutive goals gave Furman a halftime lead of 6-3. The Paladins then dominated much of the second half, outscoring Radford significantly before finishing with six different players finding the net in the final quarter.
The Paladins ended with statistical advantages across several categories: they outshot Radford 44-28 (tying for fourth-most shots in program history), won more ground balls (19-15), draws (14-13), and caused turnovers (10-4). Their nine turnovers were also their lowest total this season.
