The Furman women’s lacrosse team lost to the Mercer Bears 13-6 in a Big South Conference match on April 8 at Paladin Stadium.
The result puts Furman’s record at 7-7 overall and 3-2 in conference play, while Mercer moves to 6-6 overall and remains undefeated in the Big South with a 3-0 mark.
Lily Toole reached a career milestone by scoring her 100th goal for Furman during the game. Toole finished with two assists and one goal, while Shae Insinga led the Paladins with three goals. Emily Muir tied her career best by scoring two goals. On defense, Lilly Dyer collected three ground balls and forced two turnovers. Charlotte Kent and Audrey Smith each won three draws for Furman, whose goalkeepers Sam Melville and Madigan Brewer combined for thirteen saves.
For Mercer, Sofia D’Angelo came off the bench to lead all players with four goals and an assist. Caroline Glus added three goals and an assist, matching teammate Ansley Walters’ tally of three goals. In goal, Mackenzie Ward made five saves along with two ground balls and one caused turnover.
Mercer broke a second-quarter tie by scoring five unanswered goals to take a halftime lead of 7-2. After falling behind early, Furman was held scoreless until midway through the third quarter as Mercer built its advantage with seven straight goals. The Paladins narrowed their deficit late but could not close the gap as Mercer finished strong.
