The Furman women’s lacrosse team will close out its regular season on April 25 when it travels to Boiling Springs, North Carolina, for a Big South Conference match against Gardner-Webb at Spangler Stadium.
This game marks the end of the regular season for the Paladins, who are currently 8-8 overall and hold a 4-3 record in conference play. The outcome will help determine seeding for the upcoming Big South Women’s Lacrosse Championship.
Last week, Furman secured a 16-13 win over Winthrop after three players recorded hat tricks and the team rallied in the fourth quarter. Reynolds Hester and Lily Toole each tallied four points, with Toole scoring four goals and Hester adding three goals and an assist. Marin Hodor matched her career best with three goals. Defensively, Lilly Dyer and Charlotte Kent collected three ground balls apiece while Grace Gibson and Rachel Sbei forced two turnovers each. Cate Noone (five draws) and Skylar Hilmer (four draws) combined for nine draw controls. Goalie Sailor Henderson earned her first win of the season with five saves off the bench.
Gardner-Webb enters Saturday’s contest with a 2-14 overall record (2-5 in conference), following a recent loss to High Point. The Runnin’ Bulldogs are led by second-year head coach Chris Harris.
Furman has won all nine previous meetings against Gardner-Webb, including both contests last year—most notably a 19-5 victory during the first round of last year’s Big South Women’s Lacrosse Championship at Paladin Stadium.
The first round of this year’s Big South Women’s Lacrosse Championship begins April 28 at higher-seeded teams’ sites, with semifinals set for May 1 and finals on May 3 at the home field of the league’s top seed.
