The Furman women’s lacrosse team will begin its Big South Conference schedule on March 24 with a game against the Presbyterian College Blue Hose in Clinton, South Carolina. The match is set for a 7 p.m. start at Bailey Memorial Stadium.
This conference opener marks an important stage of the season for both teams, as each seeks to establish momentum in league play. Furman enters the matchup with a record of four wins and five losses after securing a non-conference victory over Manhattan last week. In that contest, Furman rallied in the fourth quarter to win 15-12 at Paladin Stadium, finishing with advantages in shots (37-29) and ground balls (26-12), while forcing Manhattan into 16 turnovers—six of which came in the final quarter. The team’s total of 26 ground balls tied for ninth-most in program history.
Lily Toole and Allie Kandel led Furman’s offense during that win, each recording six points. Toole scored five goals and provided one assist, while Kandel contributed two goals along with a career-high four assists. Lily Mosser matched her career high by scoring three goals and collecting four ground balls; Zoe Milmoe picked up six ground balls—tied for eighth-most in program history—and Skylar Hilmer recorded four ground balls alongside three caused turnovers, her personal best. Goalie Sam Melville earned the win off the bench with six saves.
Presbyterian comes into Wednesday’s contest holding a record of three wins and six losses after defeating Manhattan by one goal on Sunday. The Blue Hose are coached by Eric Clakeley, now serving his seventh year as head coach.
This meeting marks the ninth time Furman has faced Presbyterian in program history; Furman holds an all-time series lead of eight wins to none over Presbyterian.
Looking ahead, Furman’s first home conference game is scheduled for Saturday afternoon when they host Radford at Paladin Stadium.
