Furman University announced on April 29 that Bryn Woodall and Sierra Bishop have been selected as this week’s Southern Conference Men’s and Women’s Outdoor Track Athletes of the Week. The recognition was made public by the conference office on Wednesday.
Woodall achieved a league-leading time of 3:39.91 in the 1,500-meter race at the Charlotte Invitational held on April 24. This performance places him at number 26 in the NCAA East Region rankings. Bishop won first place in the women’s 5,000-meter event at the same meet with a time of 16:33.99, which is currently second-best in the conference by just over one second.
The announcement also listed other nominees for this week’s honors, including Bradley Franklin from Samford, Painter Richards-Baker from Western Carolina University (WCU), Anthony Hawkins from WCU, Aaliyah Mbenda from Samford, and Shaniya Shirley from WCU.
Looking ahead, Furman athletes are scheduled to compete at the Duke Twilight meet in Durham, North Carolina on Sunday.
The release included a summary of previous weekly honorees for both men’s and women’s track and field events throughout March and April. The list highlights consistent performances across several universities within the conference during this outdoor season.
