U.S. Senators Lindsey Graham and John Cornyn have urged Attorney General Pam Bondi to appoint a special counsel to investigate the Obama Administration’s involvement in what they term the “Russia collusion hoax.” Both senators are senior members of the Senate Judiciary Committee.
“For the good of the country, we urge Attorney General Bondi to appoint a special counsel to investigate the extent to which former President Obama, his staff and administration officials manipulated the U.S. national security apparatus for a political outcome,” said Graham and Cornyn in a joint statement.
They further stated, “As we have supported in the past, appointing an independent special counsel would do the country a tremendous service in this case.”
The senators claim that new information increasingly suggests that the Russia collusion narrative was fabricated by Obama’s administration to undermine public trust. “Democrats and the liberal media have been out to get President Trump since 2016. There must be an immediate investigation of what we believe to be an unprecedented and clear abuse of power by a U.S. presidential administration,” they added.
This call follows recent evidence released by Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard. The evidence reportedly shows manipulation of intelligence by former President Barack Obama and his national security team concerning Russian interference in the 2016 election.
Key points include assessments made before and after the November 2016 election indicating no cyber influence on election outcomes by foreign adversaries. However, these assessments were reportedly altered or suppressed under guidance from Obama’s office.
Obama convened top National Security Council Principals on December 9, 2016, where it was decided that a new Intelligence Community assessment would be created detailing alleged Russian interference tools used during the election.
The situation has led Graham and Cornyn to demand further investigation into what they see as significant misuse of power by a previous administration.
