Recently the Greenville Chamber of Commerce held the virtual Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Summit. It was there the Chamber and the Riley Institute of Furman University presented the eighteenth annual Upstate Diversity Leadership Awards, celebrating outstanding contributions in diversity in the Upstate.
Congratulations to Greenville Early College for receiving the William “Bill” T. Wylie VALUED Lives Award for School Excellence in Diversity as Outstanding K-12 School. This award is given to a school that incorporates valued practices of diversity into its vision and mission and promotes these principles beyond the walls of the school, demonstrating that all students, faculty, and staff are important and have the potential to succeed. Principal Marjon Ford shared, “Greenville Early College is extremely grateful to receive the William T. Wiley VALUED Lives Award for School Excellence because this award highlights that we believe diversity is essential to the success of all students. We have worked to incorporate this belief into the fabric of our school culture and are excited that it is evidenced in how we show up in our community.”
Congratulations to Tatiana James, a senior at JL Mann High School, for being named Outstanding High School Student. This award is given to a high school student who is viewed as a diversity champion and demonstrates a leading role in promoting diversity in the school environment or within the community. JL Mann Principal Dr. Shannon Gibson shares “We are so proud of Tatiana. Her leadership of the Student Body was instrumental in raising $319,000 for children’s non-profits during this year’s Spirit Week and making sure all students were included in the effort.”
