Lillie Murphy named SoCon women’s tennis player of the week

Furman University tennis player Lillie Murphy has been recognized as the Southern Conference (SoCon) women’s tennis player of the week for matches played between January 13 and 19. The announcement was made by the conference office on Tuesday.

Murphy, who is from Knoxville, Tennessee, recorded two wins in doubles at flight one and went 2-1 in singles at flight two. Her performance helped Furman secure victories over Presbyterian and Austin Peay.

On Saturday, Murphy partnered with freshman Sasha Dimitrov to achieve a 6-1 doubles win against Iowa. She then defeated Roxy Valdes of Presbyterian with a score of 6-2, 6-1 in singles play. On Monday, Murphy and Dimitrov earned another doubles victory, winning 6-2 against Austin Peay. Murphy also won her singles match that day, beating Luca Bohlen 6-2, 6-2.

Furman’s next scheduled matches are against Wake Forest on Saturday and Davidson on Sunday at the Mickel Tennis Center.

Audelie Lesauvage from ETSU was also nominated for this week’s award.
