Senator Lindsey Graham expressed support for President Donald Trump’s recent actions to address crime in Washington, D.C., according to a series of posts on his official social media account.

On August 11, 2025, Graham wrote, “I completely and totally support President @realDonaldTrump’s efforts to bring law, order and safety to our nation’s capital by activating the National Guard and federalizing the DC Metro Police Department. There is a law and order crisis in our nation’s capital that must be https://t.co/In6eq0Ao5D”.

Later that day, Graham provided an update on his communication with Trump. He stated on August 11, 2025: “I just spoke with President @realDonaldTrump and told him his efforts to make DC safe again will be applauded by the American people. It is very necessary. No one working, visiting or living in the nation’s capital should have to worry about record levels of violent crime. That”.

The following day, Graham shifted focus to South Carolina, posting on August 12, 2025: “My goal is to do this right in South Carolina so that word will get out among the gangs and the human traffickers that the Palmetto State is the worst place they could go. https://t.co/CGbLs38zDX”.

Federalization of local police forces has been rare in U.S. history and often prompts debate over local versus federal authority. The use of the National Guard in Washington, D.C., has occurred during previous periods of unrest or perceived crises. Graham represents South Carolina in the U.S. Senate and has previously aligned himself with Trump on issues related to public safety and law enforcement.
