Senator Lindsey Graham commented on international sanctions, Middle East peace efforts, and U.S. trade policy in a series of tweets posted on July 30 and July 31, 2025.
On July 30, Graham addressed Russia’s response to Western sanctions by stating, “Russia, you are right when it comes to sanctions. You have been able to avoid them and you have learned to live with them. Apparently, what you don’t understand is that President Trump is changing the game and he is going to put tariffs on countries who buy your oil and gas,”.
Later that day, Graham discussed recent diplomatic developments in the Middle East. He wrote, “The decision by a number of Arab nations, including Saudi Arabia and Egypt, to insist Hamas lay down their arms and give up political and military control of Gaza is a giant step forward. There is no peace with Hamas in charge.” This statement refers to ongoing regional efforts to resolve the conflict in Gaza by pushing for changes in Hamas’s role.
In another post on July 31, Graham expressed support for then-President Donald Trump’s policies towards India amid ongoing global tensions. He stated, “I am so glad that @realDonaldTrump is our president. His approach to India is the best way to achieve peace in the Russia-Ukraine war, and open up more markets for American goods. President Trump is putting a 25% tariff on India plus an unspecified penalty for their trade”.
Lindsey Graham serves as a U.S. Senator from South Carolina and has been active in commenting on foreign policy issues involving Russia’s energy sector sanctions evasion strategies as well as diplomatic shifts regarding Israel-Gaza relations.
