Lindsey Graham, U.S. Senator from South Carolina, posted a series of tweets on September 4 and 5, 2025, addressing international security issues and domestic immigration policy.

On September 4, Graham commented on recent diplomatic developments concerning the war in Ukraine. He stated, “It is my understanding that there was a productive meeting between the European Coalition of the Willing and the Trump Administration regarding the way forward to end the bloodbath in Ukraine. I applaud President @realDonaldTrump for sending longer range weapons to allow” (September 4, 2025).

In a separate post later that day, Graham addressed U.S. immigration enforcement measures. He wrote, “The decision to reimburse states like South Carolina that participate in the 287(g) program to combat illegal immigration is the right signal to send to enhance this program and keep our nation safe.” (September 4, 2025). The 287(g) program allows state and local law enforcement agencies to collaborate with federal authorities in enforcing immigration laws.

On September 5, Graham turned his attention to Latin America. Referring to an incident involving U.S. military operations and Venezuela, he posted: “The provocative action of flying two armed F-16s over a U.S. Navy vessel conducting a counter narco-terrorist operation is not only dangerous, but it could also easily lead to conflict. Maduro is a world class crook whose country is a safehaven for narco-terrorists who flood” (September 5, 2025).

The comments about Ukraine follow ongoing international efforts to resolve the conflict that began with Russia’s invasion in February 2022. In recent years, Western countries have debated sending advanced weaponry and coordinating strategies through various coalitions.

Graham’s remarks on immigration relate to longstanding debates over state participation in federal programs such as Section 287(g) of the Immigration and Nationality Act, which enables local law enforcement agencies to partner with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). This program has been both expanded and restricted at different times depending on federal administration priorities.

His tweet about Venezuela refers to tensions between Washington and Caracas under President Nicolás Maduro’s government. The United States has accused Venezuela of harboring criminal organizations involved in drug trafficking activities.
