Senator Lindsey Graham posted a series of tweets on August 8, 2025, expressing support for former President Donald Trump’s diplomatic efforts and his role in international peace negotiations.
In one tweet, Graham drew a historical parallel between Trump and former President Ronald Reagan. On August 8, 2025, he wrote: “To those who criticize President Trump for being willing to meet with Putin to end the bloodbath in Ukraine – remember Reagan met with Gorbachev to try to end the Cold War. I’m confident President Trump will walk away – like Reagan – if Putin insists on a bad deal. Good”.
Minutes later, Graham highlighted what he described as Trump’s contributions to global peace efforts. In another post from August 8, 2025, he stated: “At some point, the world needs to recognize that President @realDonaldTrump is an historic peacemaker and give credit where credit is due.”
Graham also referenced ongoing tensions in the South Caucasus region and recent developments involving Azerbaijan and Armenia. He wrote on August 8, 2025: “There has been a vicious conflict that’s been going on for decades between Azerbaijan and Armenia. President Trump’s brokering of a peace agreement in this vital region is a major accomplishment. The leaders of Azerbaijan and Armenia deserve praise for their efforts to secure”.
Lindsey Graham is a U.S. Senator representing South Carolina and has been an outspoken supporter of Donald Trump during his presidency and beyond. The reference to the meeting between Reagan and Gorbachev alludes to key summits held during the late stages of the Cold War that contributed significantly to reducing nuclear tensions between the United States and the Soviet Union.
The conflict between Azerbaijan and Armenia centers around Nagorno-Karabakh, a disputed territory that has seen multiple outbreaks of violence since the dissolution of the Soviet Union. Previous attempts at mediation have involved international actors such as Russia, France, and the United States through organizations like the OSCE Minsk Group.
