Lindsey Graham, U.S. Senator from South Carolina, posted a series of statements on his X (formerly Twitter) account on November 3 and 4, 2025. The tweets addressed concerns about religious violence in Nigeria and reflected on his personal relationship with former Vice President Dick Cheney.
On November 3, Graham called for action from the United States regarding ongoing violence in Nigeria. He wrote, “I hope that President Trump will provide military assistance to prevent the further slaughter of Christians in Nigeria. This is religious genocide. Boko Haram and other radical Islamic groups in the region pose a threat to humanity, not just to Africa. The level of depravity and https://t.co/a4gYOXNnOC”.
Later that day, Graham responded to another post with a brief endorsement: “Spot on. https://t.co/PUDkHDu5XH”.
On November 4, Graham reflected on his relationship with Dick Cheney: “I had the privilege and pleasure of knowing Vice President Cheney personally and professionally for many years. We spent a lot of time hunting together, and during the course of our political lives, we interacted often. I enjoyed his company tremendously and always believed he”.
Boko Haram has been responsible for numerous attacks against civilians in Nigeria since its emergence in the early 2000s. The group has targeted Christian communities as well as government institutions, leading to thousands of deaths and displacements over the past two decades.
Graham’s comments highlight ongoing international concern over religiously motivated violence in West Africa as well as continued political connections among senior U.S. officials.
