CMS gave NHC Healthcare – Mauldin a 3 out of 5 overall rating, matching the statewide average for nursing homes in South Carolina.

Brushy Creek Post Acute ranked second in Greenville County for size, providing 144 beds, while Chandler Creek Post Acute was third, with 133 beds available.

U.S. Census Bureau estimates show the nation’s older adult population is on the rise, while younger age groups are getting smaller. Between 2020 and 2024, the population of Americans age 65 and older grew by 13%, as those under 18 fell by 1.7%. The older adult population has expanded greatly over the past 100 years—from 4.9 million in 1920 to over 61 million in 2024, according to Census data.

A 2021 report estimates that close to half of those in this age category—about 28 million people—may need long-term services and support. The findings also suggest that more than one-third may ultimately enter nursing home care.

“Living a long life is something that many of us want and could get,” said Jesse Slome, executive director of the American Association for Long-Term Care Insurance, an organization focused on insurance education. “But when we live a long life, the chances of us needing long-term care increase exponentially. But when you need that type of care, there are limited options.”
