U.S. Senator Lindsey Graham announced on Apr. 30 that the Senate Judiciary Committee has advanced Sheria Clarke’s nomination to be a U.S. District Court Judge for the District of South Carolina, moving her candidacy to a full Senate vote.
The committee voted 15 to 7 in favor of Clarke, with support from both parties. The decision is significant as it brings Clarke one step closer to serving on the federal bench, a position that requires confirmation by the entire Senate.
Graham has been an advocate for Clarke throughout her nomination process and said, “I am very pleased that the Senate Judiciary Committee has advanced Sheria Clarke’s nomination to be a U.S. District Court Judge for South Carolina. With extraordinary credentials, an impeccable character and a deep commitment to the rule of law, Ms. Clarke is exactly the kind of person who should be a federal judge. I want to again thank President Trump for nominating her.”
He added his intention to continue supporting her through confirmation: “I will continue supporting Ms. Clarke as her nomination comes to the Senate floor. I look forward to a swift and smooth confirmation and having her on the federal bench soon.”
