Greenville recently hosted a gathering for the International Conference of Police Chaplains.

The group is a professional membership international organization made up of chaplains and liaison officers from different faith groups and law enforcement agencies.

Attorney General Alan Wilson participated in the event and shared his excitement on Twitter.

"I had the opportunity to speak a packed house at the International Conference of Police Chaplains today in Greenville," Wilson wrote in a July 12 Twitter post. "The work behind the scenes this groups does to #BackTheBlue cannot go unappreciated. Thank you for everything you do."

The conference was held at the Hyatt Regency Hotel at Greenville’s Main Street July 12-16, and offered several different courses for officers.

The conference was started by Chaplain Joseph Dooley following a tragic auto accident that killed three Internal Revenue Agents.

Dooley was frustrated at being unable to locate or contact other law enforcement chaplains for assistance in sending death notifications to the officers' families.

Dooley sent letters to police associations, chiefs of police of major departments, and law enforcement chaplains across the nation with the goal of compiling a directory of chaplains with contact information and promoting a fellowship of chaplains in the U.S. and Canada.
