U.S. Rep. William Timmons has criticized House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.), who rejected two of House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy's (R-Calif.) GOP picks to sit on the Jan. 6 committee to look into the Capitol attack.
In a series of tweets, Timmons, a Fourth District Republican, called Pelosi's decision to oppose McCarthy's picks was evidence the committee is "nothing more than political theater."
"If Speaker Pelosi was actually concerned about objections to the electoral college certification, why did she choose someone who voted to decertify the 2004 election results as Chairman?" Timmons questioned in one tweet on June 21. "This 'committee' has nothing to do with investigating the facts, it is just more partisan politics. House Republicans will not stand for it."
His comments came after Pelosi denied McCarthy's recommendations to have U.S. Reps. Jim Banks (R-Ind.) and Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) on July 21, Yahoo! News reported.
McCarthy called Pelosi's "unprecedented step" that denied two members of the minority party seats on the committee an abuse of power and threatened to remove all five Republican nominees and start their own investigation, according to a statement on his website.
Banks and Jordan were two of 139 House Republicans who voted to overturn results of the 2020 presidential election in Arizona and Pennsylvania, MSN reported.
