Areas of Timmons Park reopened Aug.13 as work continues on the pickleball courts and other amenities, according to the Greenville News.
The 26-acre park off Oxford Street was closed for several weeks as city contractors worked on replacing storm water pipes under the parking lot.
City Council member John DeWorken helped to spread the word, tweeting, "It's the ability for anyone to be able to go to a park, have a picnic, slide down a slide, and watch your kids swing on the swings. It's creating moments like that, that really make life better."
Access the parking lot, a new playground, the baseball field, the disc golf course and picnic shelters reopened Friday.
The city's larger ongoing improvements at the park will continue for at least another 45 days, city government spokesperson Beth Brotherton told the Greenville News. That work includes improved access for those with disabilities, better erosion control, additional parking spaces and improved pickleball courts.
The storm drain work was necessary, but the city is taking advantage of the situation to make the park more accessible and add improvements for community members.
The hope is that the additional investment in the park will make it a destination in the community.
