Gov. Henry McMaster has gotten his re-election bid for 2022 off to a fast start, receiving the Susan B. Anthony List's first endorsement of the cycle last week.

Susan B. Anthony List President Marjorie Dannenfelser announced the endorsement during an Aug. 11 press conference, complimenting McMaster and his team's work in pushing against abortion in the state, including limiting tax funds for abortion clinics and signing the Fetal Heartbeat Bill.

McMaster expressed gratitude for the endorsement from the group on Twitter: “I believe we have a duty to see all of our people, young, old, and everyone in between, including those yet to be born to experience this life that we have in this state, in this county, and on this earth. I'm honored to earn the support of @SBAList.”

McMaster's pro-life stances and his efforts to advance pro-life legislation helped him win the endorsement, and comes as Mississippi's and South Carolina's new abortion laws are held up in court until the U.S. Supreme Court makes a ruling on the Mississippi anti-abortion law case that has the potential to overturn Roe v. Wade.

The court is expected to make a decision next year on the Mississippi case after the only abortion clinic in the state challenged a law that bans abortions after 15 weeks.

McMaster led a legal filing with other GOP governors, urging the Supreme Court to let the states make their own abortion laws.

The filing also said the court infringed on states' rights in the Roe v. Wade decision.
