The Clemson men’s soccer team proved it was worthy of its No. 2 ranking with a conference opening, 2-0, victory over N.C. State on Sept. 10.

The Tigers (5-0) shot up to the second spot of the United Soccer Coaches poll following additional shutout wins over South Carolina, 5-0, and South Florida, 3-0, according to release by the school.

Tigers senior goalkeeper and team captain George Marks has been the catalyst behind an impressive defensive effort to begin the fall. After allowing a goal in the opening nine minutes of the season, Marks and the Clemson defense haven't conceded a tally to an opponent since to register four straight shutouts.

Marks has played 435 total minutes in between the pipes, where he's made 15 saves and boasts a .938 save percentage.

Clemson returns home Sept. 14 for a matchup against UNC Greensboro.
