Trevor Lawrence may be a Jacksonville Jaguars rookie quarterback trying to achieve his best form in the NFL, but he hasn't forgotten his former collegiate team.
Just ask Clemson sophomore quarterback D. J. Uiagalelei, who this season has had the unenviable task of replacing the reigning ACC Athlete of the Year and All-American Lawrence under center for the Tigers (4-2).
"Me and (Clemson) Coach (Brandon) Streeter, the quarterbacks coach, we talk a lot still so I stay in touch," Lawrence said during a media session this week in a video posted on jaguars.com. "So I check in and see how things are going."
What Lawrence said he has seen from Uiagalelei and Clemson is an offense that is much different than the one he left when he turned pro and became the first overall selection in the 2021 NFL Draft.
The Tigers averaged 502 yards and 43.5 points per game as one of the nation's most prolific scoring attacks in 2020 under Lawrence. However, those numbers have fallen off to an average of 325 yards and 21 points per game this season.
Still, Lawrence, like Uiagalelei, has been faced with a learning curve of his own since settling into his new role as NFL quarterback.
Lawrence said he is trying to learn football at another level, and after starting his pro career 0-5, finally earned his first win last week as Jacksonville (1-5) eked out a 23-20 victory over the Miami Dolphins in London.
