Bon Secours St. Francis Health System issued the following announcement on December 10.
Three Bon Secours hospitals in Virginia have been named to The Leapfrog Group’s “Top Hospital” designation. In Bon Secours’ Hampton Roads market, Bon Secours Mary Immaculate Hospital in Newport News was named a Top General Hospital while Bon Secours Maryview Medical Center in Portsmouth was named a Top Teaching Hospital. In Bon Secours’ Richmond market, Bon Secours Richmond Community Hospital in Richmond was named a Top General Hospital by national hospital watchdog organization The Leapfrog Group.
Announced yesterday, these national awards recognize achievements in patient safety and quality. The Top Hospital award is widely acknowledged as one of the most competitive honors American hospitals can receive. More than 2,200 hospitals were considered for the award and a total of 149 hospitals were selected. Bon Secours received their Top Hospital distinctions alongside:
- Eight Top Children’s Hospitals
- 46 Top General Hospitals
- 23 Top Rural Hospitals
- 72 Top Teaching Hospitals

To qualify for the Top Hospitals distinction, hospitals must rank top among peers on the Leapfrog Hospital Survey, which assesses hospital performance on the highest standards for quality and patient safety.
