Celebrating Our Future Teachers!

A13

Students participating in the Dual-Enrollment Course, a partnership with Clemson University, were honored at a banquet May 23, 2022. These students spent a minimum of 40 hours this semester working in local schools with classroom teachers and have received over 20 hours of professional development from GCS personnel and special speakers. With successful completion of this program, each of these young teachers received three hours of college credit in education from Clemson University. Five students also received a $1000 scholarship from the Greenville County Schools Foundation.

Each student was given the opportunity to invite the teacher who most inspired them and was able to take a few moments to honor that teacher during the event. Superintendent Dr. W. Burke Royster and Dr. Leigh Martin, Executive Director of Field and Clinical Partnerships and Outreach from Clemson University, were in attendance and presented each student with a gift and certificate in recognition of their achievement.

The Greenville County Schools Foundation is a nonprofit organization established to support The School District of Greenville County. The Foundation’s primary mission is to support our students by providing educational scholarships, to encourage students to join the teaching profession, and to support our teaching and non-teaching staff by providing funding for advanced degrees, additional certifications, and professional development.

All contributions to the Foundation are for the benefit of students and are tax-deductible. The Board of Directors consists of business, community and school district leaders who recognize the vital importance of excellent public schools to the success and quality of life of the greater Greenville County community.
