Waiver of Student Reduced Meal Price

0Comments

Greenville County Schools Board of Trustees voted to waive the cost of meals for students who qualify for reduced-price meals. These meals will be paid for through budget surpluses generated in the School Meal programs, not through local taxpayer funds.

Families that are eligible for free or reduced-price meals must apply to receive them. Families can determine their current eligibility by checking Parent Backpack or contacting their cafeteria manager at their child’s school. Families that need to complete a Free and Reduced Priced Meal Application for the 2022-2023 school year can do so here:

Free and Reduced Priced Meal Application

The online applications are by far the most accurate and efficient method to apply for Free or Reduced Priced Meals. On average, online applications are processed within 24-48 hours of completion. Parents are encouraged to take advantage of this simple process.

For more information regarding Free and Reduced Priced Meal Applications please contact the Food and Nutrition Services office at 355-1251 or by e-mail at bhogue@greenville.k12.sc.us.

GCS continues to provide breakfast free of charge to all Greenville County students, regardless of their meal status. The USDA allowed schools to offer free meals to all students during the pandemic, but Congress did not extend this benefit for the 2022-2023 school year. Since the USDA is no longer continuing this assistance, Greenville County Schools is pleased to provide this benefit to our students and appreciates the support of the Board of Trustees.
