Congressman William Timmons, representing South Carolina’s 4th district since 2019, recently shared a series of tweets outlining legislative efforts aimed at bolstering American energy and defense capabilities. The posts highlight various aspects of the proposed legislation, emphasizing its potential impact on national security and economic growth.

On May 20, 2025, Congressman Timmons tweeted about the legislation’s impact on American energy. He stated that “It unleashes American energy dominance.” According to Timmons, the bill would increase both onshore and offshore oil and gas leases. This move is expected to provide certainty for energy producers, spur job growth, and make energy more affordable for American consumers.

In another tweet posted on the same day, Timmons described the legislation as “a once-in-a-generation chance to revolutionize our nation’s defense capabilities.” He highlighted funding for President Trump’s Golden Dome initiative and investments in American shipbuilding as key components of the bill. Additionally, he mentioned efforts to modernize the military to protect against new threats.

Further addressing domestic resource development, Timmons tweeted that “It boosts American mineral development.” The bill aims to increase mining of domestic minerals to reduce dependency on foreign adversaries for critical resources.

William Timmons was born in Greenville, South Carolina in 1984 and has been serving in Congress since replacing Trey Gowdy in 2019. Before his congressional role, he served in the South Carolina Senate from 2016 to 2018. A graduate of George Washington University with a BA and holding a JD from the University of South Carolina, Timmons continues to reside in Greenville.
