Furman University issued the following announcement on July 14.

Could a campaign built on legalizing marijuana entice South Carolina Republicans and Independents to vote for gubernatorial candidate Joe Cunningham, a Democrat?

Nigel Robertson of WYFF News4 spoke to Brent Nelsen, a professor of politics and international affairs at Furman University, for his view on how the issue could impact the 2022 election. “Yes, it absolutely can help [Cunningham]. He  has to get help in some way because Democrats in this state can sometimes manage 47 or 48% of the electorate,” Nelsen said.
