U.S. Rep. Ralph Norman (R-5th District) recently announced he tested positive for COVID-19, despite having received vaccines to combat the virus, according to NBC News.

Norman's announcement Aug. 5 makes him the third Washington lawmaker this week to test positive for the virus, including Sen. Lindsey Graham, who announced he tested positive for coronavirus Aug. 2.

“After experiencing minor symptoms this morning, I sought a COVID-19 test and was just informed the test results were positive" Norman tweeted. "Thankfully, I have been fully vaccinated and my symptoms remain mild. To every extent possible, I will continue my work virtually while in quarantine for the next ten days.”

Norman is the second South Carolina legislator to test positive for the virus this week and the third member of Congress to do so in the past four weeks, CNN reports, adding that all three legislators were fully vaccinated and only had minor symptoms.

Additionally, CNN reports that these three new cases follow many months, during which no member of Congress announced a positive test result.

Cases continue to rise throughout the country, including South Carolina, where almost 2,000 new cases have been reported in the last week as the delta variant progresses into the dominant coronavirus strain.
