Bon Secours St. Francis Health System: Bon Secours Recognized for Excellence in Total Shoulder Replacement Surgery

A1a2

Bon Secours St. Francis Health System issued the following announcement on September 3.

Bon Secours has earned The Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval® for Disease-Specific Care Total Shoulder Replacement Certification by demonstrating continuous compliance with its performance standards. The Gold Seal is a symbol of quality that reflects a health care organization’s commitment to providing safe and quality patient care.

The certification, which is good for two years, recognizes health care organizations that provide clinical programs across the continuum of care for shoulder replacement. The certification evaluates how organizations use clinical outcomes and performance measures to identify opportunities to improve care, as well as to educate and prepare patients and their caregivers for discharge following surgery.

Bon Secours underwent a rigorous onsite review in which a Joint Commission reviewer evaluated compliance with dozens of standards related to the delivery and facilitation of care for total shoulder replacement patients. The reviewer also conducted interviews with staff and physicians involved in the direct care of shoulder patients. Joint Commission standards are developed in consultation with health care experts, doctors, other providers, and patients.

Disease-Specific Care Total Shoulder Replacement Certification recognizes health care organizations committed to fostering continuous quality improvement in patient safety and quality of care,” says Mark Pelletier, RN, MS, chief operating officer, Accreditation and Certification Operations, and chief nursing executive, The Joint Commission. “We commend Bon Secours for using certification to reduce variation in its clinical processes and to strengthen its program structure and management framework for total shoulder replacement patients.”
