The Greenville Triumph have narrowed the search for the name for their new USL W League women's soccer team to five finalists, and the team is now asking for fan input in the form of votes to decide the winner.

The five finalists are as follows: Ascent, Glory, Liberty, Spark and Wrens.

When the search began, the team received almost 300 name submissions from fans. From there, the Triumph narrowed the selection to the five most popular as voted on by the community and their fans. When the winner is decided, the fan who suggested the winning name will be rewarded with two season tickets to the team's games.

“We were overwhelmed by the number of submissions we received and impressed by the thoughtfulness and creativity behind the suggestions," Doug Erwin, Triumph vice chairman and chief brand officer, told USL Network. "The ideas were an honest reflection of how proud people are to be part of the Greenville and Upstate communities. We’re excited to see this passion carry into the upcoming inaugural season.”

Those who wish to vote should do so as soon as possible as voting continues through Friday, Dec. 17. Fans can vote at BuiltByGreenville.com. The team's name, crest and colors will be announced early next year. The women's team is slated to be a competitor in the new USL W League starting in spring of 2022.

The formation of the new team was announced in June of this year. According to Triumph chairman and owner Joe Erwin, the Greenville-based team will be one of 30 teams in the inaugural season.

“For us, the reason we (became a founding member of the league) is we have a passion that soccer is the one sport that can be played equally by men and women. We didn’t launch Triumph without the thought that we wanted to be involved in women’s soccer,” Joe Erwin told the Greenville Journal in June of 2021.
