The Furman men’s hoops squad won a big one for their coach last weekend, notching a conference win against Mercer, but also giving Bob Richey his 100th victory.
After breaking a 7-7 tie on Joe Anderson’s three-pointer, the Paladins (11-6 overall, 3-1 Southern Conference) never looked back. They finished with an 81-66 win.
Mike Bothwell led the team with 17 points. Anderson, who came off the bench, knocked down five three-pointers.
“I thought Joe Anderson was incredible today,” Richey said after the game, as reported by furmanatt.com. “Obviously, he hit the big 3’s.”
Richey, in his fifth season as Furman’s head coach, is 100-40.
“The 100th win, that’s great,” Richie said, according to furmanatt.com.
But he said it’s about the team, not him.
“That’s just a program milestone to me. It’s the crew, not the captain,” he said in that report. “It’s a group of people who have bought into how we gotta play and how we gotta do it, but it’s just been an incredible week and one I’ll never forget.”
And it was a team effort. The Paladins hit 53.3% of their shots from the field in the first half, and eight players scored.
Furman has won 13 in a row over Mercer (8-7, 1-1), dating back to the 2015-16 season.
