The Spartanburg County Council is considering a rezoning for several parcels from restrictive development to general development districts.
In a recent county release, officials outlined the 23 parcels included in the forthcoming rezoning discussion.
“All parcels under consideration and those contiguous to them must be notified of changes to the zoning map,” the release said. "If your property does not appear in the list below, you are adjacent to a property that may be rezoned."
The county’s planning commission is set to hold a public hearing on the rezoning at 4:30 p.m. on Feb. 1 in the County Council Chambers at 366 North Church St. in Spartanburg.
In the weeks following, the council will hold a separate public hearing on the rezoning plans 5:15 p.m. on Feb. 21 in the County Council Chambers.
This comes, the release said, as the proliferation of industrial development in the area has led the county council to consider rezoning some properties from the “restrict development district” to the “general development district.”
According to the county website, Spartanburg currently operates under two zoning ordinances — the Performance Zoning Ordinance in the Southwest Planning Area and the Unified Land Management Ordinance in the remainder of the county.
Of these, neither ordinance assigns zoning classifications at the parcel level as most traditional zoning ordinances do, the website said.
