Bon Secours Rappahannock General Hospital Unveils New Entrance, Lobby and Café Following Completion of Phase One of Expansion

8

Bon Secours leaders and community members joined together on April 13, 2022 to mark the completion of the first phase of construction on the renovation and expansion of Bon Secours Rappahannock General Hospital. Included in phase one is the completion of a new hospital entrance, a new lobby which will soon include an updated reception area for an improved patient experience, and a new café that we hope to reopen to the public in the near future.

The renovation and expansion project broke ground nearly one year ago on April 15, 2021. With the first phase of construction now complete, Bon Secours Rappahannock General Hospital now features a new main entrance and main entrance canopy. While construction continues at Rappahannock General Hospital, patients and visitors will continue to utilize the temporary entrance located around the side of the hospital. Also included in phase one was the new construction of a dining area, which is now open to RGH associates. The café is still closed to the public at this time due to visitor restrictions.

“We are thrilled to celebrate this milestone and unveil our new entrance, lobby and café; however, this is just the beginning.” said Alan Bailey, vice president administrator, Bon Secours Rappahannock General Hospital. “We are proud to have served this community faithfully for 45 years and look forward to continuing to make improvements on our campus so that we can continue to provide quality, compassionate care for many more years to come.”

The next phase of construction will include a major overhaul of the emergency department, bringing it from an eight-bed, semi-private unit to a 10-bed unit with private rooms. When treating patients in the emergency department, privacy is key. Whether a patient needs to be isolated while experiencing a mental health crisis, or they need to be isolated to rule out an infectious disease, having private rooms within the unit will help protect and preserve the well-being of not only our patients, but our staff and the community as a whole.

This renovation is made possible by many generous contributions from the community. Having reached its $15 million philanthropic goal to provide the funding needed to complete the renovation and expansion a full year ahead of schedule, Bon Secours has announced a new goal of $20 million for the Campaign for Rappahannock General Hospital. Dollars raised in this round of fundraising will go towards updating other priority areas of the hospital including a renovation and expansion of the Outpatient Infusion Center, updates to the inpatient wing and behavioral health unit, courtyard garden and modernizing the entire facility.

The celebratory ceremony concluded with tours of the new entrance, lobby and café spaces. Construction on the renovation and expansion of the emergency department is expected to be complete by early 2023.
