82% of GCS Juniors Earn National Career Readiness Certificates

Eighty-two percent of GCS students in their third year of high school who completed the ACT WorkKeys® assessment earned a 2022 National Career Readiness Certificate (NCRC). Additionally, GCS students outperformed the state in the ACT WorkKeys assessment with 58% earning Silver or above.

ACT WorkKeys is a career readiness assessment designed to measure essential workforce skills and was administered to South Carolina students in the third year of high school. More than 1,400 employers in South Carolina recognize the NCRC certificate.

National Career Readiness Certificate Breakout Among GCS Students:

  • Bronze: 24% (score of level 3 or higher on all exams)
  • Silver: 26% (score of level 4 or higher on all exams)
  • Gold: 18% (score of level 5 or higher on all exams)
  • Platinum: 14% (score of level 6 or higher on all exams)
The assessment contained three parts: Applied Math, Graphic Literacy and Workplace Documents.

“With more than 1,400 businesses in the state recognizing the National Career Readiness Certificate, we are very proud that 82 percent of our third-year students not only received the certificate but also showed they are ready to enter our workforce,” said GCS Superintendent Dr. Burke Royster. “With our Graduation Plus initiative, we want all students to graduate from Greenville County Schools with a diploma plus industry certifications, college credit or both so they have evidence in hand that they are ready for their next steps in life.”
