The Greenville City Council has agreed pay for a new plaza, sidewalks and other street improvements downtown for the new United Community Bank headquarters building, the Greenville News reported.
The exact cost of the improvements haven't been determined yet, according to the report.
Greenville's design review board on Sept. 2 approved plans for the 117,000-square-foot tower with a 154-space parking garage and space for 314 employees, the Greenville News reported.
"As we continue development of our planned corporate headquarters on Camperdown Way, we have been working with city staff for several months on improvements along Camperdown and Falls Street that will positively impact pedestrian and vehicle safety as well as aesthetic connectivity," the bank said in a statement, the Greenville News reported. "Our proposed work will extend from the exceptional improvements planned along the connection points in front of the Grand Bohemian to provide a seamless experience along Camperdown Way."
The headquarters relocation from Blairsville, Georgia, will bring more than 200 jobs to Greenville, the Greenville News report said.
The bank officially announced the relocation July 1.
“Greenville provides an excellent place for our company to continue our plans for strategic growth,” the bank's chairman and CEO, Lynn Harton, said in a statement. “As we’ve increased our operations here over the past nine years, we’re continually impressed with the strong public-private partnership that helps to thoughtfully grow this community.
“More importantly, this vibrant community is an excellent place for our employees and their families to live and provides a great opportunity for future recruitment.”
